Dancer has all the right moves

“I truly believe that dancers in general are some of the most beautiful, kind and hardworking individuals I know."

Local dancer Keri Thompson, who grew up in Nigel but relocated to Springs, is making an impact with her moves.

With over 30 years in the industry, Keri’s dance story is that she realised her determination and persevered to become a passionate dance instructor.

After working at a dance studio, Keri says the natural step was fulfilling her dream of starting her own dance studio with the aim of helping local dancers, whether first-timers or skilled, refine their skills.

As Keri describes, she witnessed her students walk into the studio, too shy to even try the first class, and later turn into confident and expressive young dancers.

“The lessons taught in a dance studio transcend just dancing and leak into all aspects of a dancer’s life,” she adds.

“What I love about dancing is the freedom to express yourself in something that feels so beautiful and natural. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but looking at the 11 years, we have really grown.

“As a teacher, I love to see the transformation that a dancer undergoes. Not only physically as a dancer but as a person.”

Dance styles included are modern, tap, contemporary and lyrical, acro-dance, hip-hop, and ladies dancercise.

Undefeated for more than a decade, she and her team have completed yearly dance exams and competitions, as well as an annual show and regular performances.

They are Springs Boys High School Band dancers.

The dance styles she teaches include modern, tap, contemporary and lyrical, acro-dance, hip-hop, and ladies dancercise, from ages two and above.
