Attendees enjoy bowls fun day

The fun day was held to raise funds for the Friends of the Marievale Nature Reserve.

The Friends of the Marievale Nature Reserve hosted a bowling fun day at the Nigel Bowling Club on November 26.

“Despite the extreme heat, bowlers and non-bowlers from across the East Rand enjoyed the fun day immensely,” said Dee Johnson of the Friends of the Marievale Nature Reserve.

Justin Donaldson and Paul Winnan.

“Amid much laughter, the novices attempted to get their woods close to the jack, with some invading the neighbouring teams’ areas.”

The day’s event raised funds for the Marievale Nature Reserve, which will be distributed among several projects at the reserve.

“The star of the day was Tony Cheatle of the Goue Jare Retirement Village in town,” Johnson said.

Tony Cheatle gave the game a try despite his blindness.

“Although he is blind, Tony was game to give it a try with his wife Anne ringing a cowbell to give him auditory guidance.”

The team from Edenvale won the match and received the floating trophy from Peter Law (chairperson of the Friends of the Marievale Nature Reserve).

Chris Hitchinson won the hamper.
