Metro encourages residents to make use of rainwater

We must all do our bit to save water.

With the festive season fast approaching, one tends to forget the rainfall that soon follows in its wake.

The metro reminds residents that not only is rainfall good for cooling down and watering crops, but it is also a powerful tool in the efforts of energy and water conservation.

A spokesperson for the metro, Zweli Dlamini, talks more about the benefits of using rainwater.

“One of the ways rain can be used to help save water and money is by harvesting it. Rainwater is a natural source, so it is free.

“Not only does harvesting rainwater allow you to have more water to use around the house or business, but it also helps you save on your water bill.”

Dlamini says the process is simple.

“All you need is a water tank or two to store the rainwater coming off your gutters and roof. Add a tap or even a pump and use the water in the garden, to wash cars, for cleaning and even top up the pool.”

It can also be used for laundry, irrigation, toilet flushing and cleaning around the house.
