Heidelberg Hospital marks Transport Month

The public could have HIV tests and cancer screenings during the campaign.

Heidelberg Hospital participated in a road safety and wellness event as part of Transport Month on October 19.

The event was at the Heidelberg taxi rank and co-ordinated by the Lesedi Community Safety Forum as part of their road safety and awareness campaign.

Heidelberg Hospital staff also raised awareness of drinking and driving.

“As the Heidelberg Hospital Clinic Forensic Medical Services, we work hand-in-hand with the SAPS and traffic police in conducting roadblocks, where our part is to draw and test blood from suspected drivers,” said Annelene Strydom of the hospital.

Community members had the chance to get screened at the event.

“Drinking and driving is a primary contributing factor to road carnages and casualties, which burdens public health facilities.

“As we head into the festive season, we need to intensify these road safety campaigns because they will help to minimise road accidents that can relieve pressure in trauma cases.”

People could also get HIV testing and prostrate cancer screenings at the event.
