Karate students prep for championships

The students of the Tenshinkan Karate Club will now focus on preparing for the SA Championships.

Various karate students from the Tenshinkan Karate Club have showed their mettle in recent months.

Forty students from the club’s Heidelberg, Nigel, Mackenzieville and Balfour dojos competed in the South Gauteng Championships in Fourways on July 29.

Sensei Leon Gagiano with two of the students from the Balfour Dojo. Diandri Pretorius won a silver and a bronze medal and Ian Pretorius won two gold medals for the South Gauteng Championships.

The students, all in various age groups, competed in the kata and kumite categories.

All students placed between first and third place.

More recently, various students from the club competed in the North Gauteng Championships in Benoni on August 19.

The club and its students will now focus on preparing for the South African Championships, which will be held in Brakpan on October 19.

The North Gauteng medal winners, ranging from first to third place.
