Cambridge FC competes in friendly tournament

Cambridge FC won the friendly pre-season tournament.

Cambridge FC recently participated in a pre-season tournament in preparation for the upcoming Hollywood Bets Regional League, also known as the SAB League.

The tournament was at the Heidelberg Army Gymnasium.

The team faced the Sedibeng Regional League champions, Real Hearts FC, who had recently returned from the provincial playoffs.

“The match started slowly, with most Cambridge players being under 21 and still on trial for selection for the upcoming season,” said Cambridge FC chairperson Ignatius Maphike.

“The boys showed confidence in keeping the ball, with the opposing team equally confident.”

Real Hearts FC opened the scoreboard early on from outside the 18-yard area.

“Our boys reciprocated and scored their first goal soon after,” Maphike said.

“The first half of the match ended with a score of 1-1.”

In the second half, the Cambridge team scored two more goals.

The match ended with a final score of 3-1 for the Cambridge team.

“The boys are showing they want to compete at a higher level, and with more games like this, they will be put to the test,” Maphike said.

The tournament’s second match saw Cambridge play the Heidelberg Army team.

“The second match was much more physical than the first, with different players for Cambridge given the chance to show their mettle,” Maphike said.

The Cambridge team also won the second match with a score of 2-1.

The final match saw the Cambridge team face off against Peace Brothers FC.

The match ended in a 1-1 tie, with Cambridge FC walking away as champions.

“It was a great day,” Maphike said.

“We are now finalising the team for the upcoming season, which is hard considering the talent and hard work displayed by every young man on the field.”
