Race 4 Hope raises funds for LCC
The race saw hundreds of bike riders and road runners support the event.
The Western Insurance Race 4 Hope on August 19, in aid of the Lesedi Community Centre (LCC), was a success.
Race day saw bike riders and road runners step up to the starting line to participate in various races and help raise funds for the LCC.
“Today is all about the Lesedi Community Centre,” said Elvira Joubert, one of the event organisers.
“The funds raised today will be redirected to the LCC for them to build a haven for abused women and children.”
The organisers ensured the participants’ safety came first during every race, from safety gear to water points on the routes and paramedics on the scene.
A kids’ play park entertained children while their parents raced.
Participants could choose between various races, such as:
• The 3km walk, run or bike
• The 10km walk, run or bike
• The 30km mountain bike race
• The 60km mountain bike race
The first 700 entrants received goody bags.
“At the end of the day, it is about the community supporting the community,” Joubert said.
The race winners were as follows (places indicated from first to third):
The 60km mountain bike race:
• Jordan Boshoff in 02:05:35 at 28.67km/h.
• Joshua Nelson in 02:27:22 at 24.43km/h.
• Jaco Pretorius in 02:31:17 at 23.80km/h.
The 30km mountain bike race:
• Megan Boshoff in 01:19:41 at 22.59km/h.
• Morne Nagel in 01:22:56 at 21.70km/h.
• Gerrit Breydenbach in 01:24:35 at 21.28km/h.
The 10km mountain bike race:
• Nico Malan in 00:37:25 at 17.64km/h.
• Katlego Moloko in 00:39:59 at 16.51km/h.
• Steven Card in 00:40:35 at 16.26km/h.
The 3km mountain bike race:
• Ruben van Rooyen in 00:13:04 at 18.37km/h.
• Simon Bezuidenhout in 00:13:05 at 18.34km/h.
• Liam Bezuidenhout in 00:13:06 at 18.32km/h.
The 10km trail run:
• Noko Lamola in 00:44:38.
• Batman Mngomenzulu in 00:48:07.
• Stephen Windell in 00:48:09.
The 3km trail run:
• Danie Fourie in 00:10:49.
• Eduan Schoeman in 00:10:58.
• Joshua Rodrigues-Farinha in00:11:00.
The organisers thanked every participant and business for making the day possible.
