Life Suikerbosrand Hospital reopens its surgical ward

Life Suikerbos Hospital upgraded its surgical ward and recently reopened it.

Life Suikerbosrand Hospital reopened its surgical ward on August 11 after construction started on July 1.

The improvements and the facelift included improved lighting, bathrooms in each room instead of communal ones, open spaces and an airier ward.

It was the first upgrade to the surgical ward in 20 years.

“It has been a difficult and strenuous time with patients who had to be housed in other wards while the construction and facelift took place,” said hospital manager Kubashnee Naidoo.

“We want to thank Life Hospital’s head office for allowing the upgrade and helping with the finances to make it happen.”

Life Suikerbosrand Hospital will get more medical professionals on board, ready to treat patients to the best of their abilities.

The surgical ward will have four registered nurses, seven auxiliary nurses and four enrolled nurses.

Dr Chileshe Mpehle cut the ribbon to the new ward and said, “I am deeply honoured at being asked to open the surgical ward. I am a representative of all the great doctors who worked here and are still working in the hospital.

We contribute to helping patients get back up on their feet and be as healthy as possible. As hospital staff, we must remember what we do and carry on looking after patients to the best of our abilities.”

“We, as Life Suikerbosrand staff, want the patients to be comfortable with us and to experience a completely improved experience,” said Naidoo.

“We also want to ensure our hospital stays abreast of the latest trends and medical care, and together we can move into a better future instead of stagnating in the past,” concluded Naidoo.
