Wiesenhof treats animals to Mandela Day surprise

Wiesenhof visited the SPCA as part of the Mandela Day celebrations.

Wiesenhof did their 67 minutes for Mandela Day at the Heidelberg SPCA on July 18.

The Wiesenhof staff, with Kobus Wiese in charge, spent the morning with the Heidelberg SPCA chairperson, Petro Coetzee and their employees.

They varnished the wooden structures at the premises and donated pet food and cat litter.

“We are in the community supporting the community, businesses and institutions in Heidelberg,” said Brigid Jaucot, the spokesperson for Wiesenhof.

“We want to make a difference in the area and ensure it is addictive, so others want to help and make a difference too.”

Other community members and institutions in Heidelberg donated pet food.

“We thank everyone for coming out to help and donate to our cause,” Coetzee said.

“We need more community involvement to keep the SPCA afloat. Currently, our primary source of income is the bookstore on the premises.

“It is a huge help, but we need more donations to ensure we do our work to the best of our abilities.”

The SPCA constantly takes in animals, but more involvement is needed for the organisation to be effective in the community.

“Another source of constant income is the kennels they need sponsors for,” Coetzee continued.

“There are about 20 kennels sponsored already. The aim is to have 100 sponsored kennels monthly.”

Lesedi Community Centre (LCC) manager Jaco Kritzinger will join hands with Wiesenhof and send some of their members for barista training as part of job creation.

LCC is in Rensburg, and its heart is with the community. LCC helps destitute and homeless people in the area and trains them to better themselves.

Other services LCC provides:

• Provision of short-term housing facilities (shelter).

• Feeding scheme.

• Street outreach programme.

• Skills development.

• Seamstress service.

• Therapy centre.

• Team-up 2 Clean Up.
