Businesses help crime-fighting unit

The registered NPO, Alra Park Anti Crime Prevention Unit, received a donation of jackets on July 7.

The donation, by PC Builders, was handed over by Lorraine Jacobs to the deputy chairperson, Neil Scheepers.

Andre Valla of VPS Haulers donated other much-needed supplies to the unit.

“The unit was established to help combat crime in the Alra Park and Mackenzieville areas,” chairperson Clayton Thompson said.

“It comprises male and female volunteers to help patrol the neighbourhood.

“The unit’s existence came about due to an outcry from the community.

“The support of the community and businesses is an example of how our success is highly dependent on the collaboration of businesses and residents in the area.

“The unit will continue to help lower the crime levels in the area, and together with the support of our local law enforcement, departments of justice and social development and the community, we can be an example to other communities on how to take back our streets without resorting to mob justice.”
