Local runner bags first place
Phumlisa Papa hopes to qualify for the upcoming South African Championships.
A runner from the Heidelberg Athletics Club, Phumlisa Papa won a 4km cross-country race on July 1.
The league race, which fell under the AVT (Athletics Vaal Triangle), was held in Meyerton and was at Hoërskool Dr Malan.
Papa competed against seven other runners and won the race in 12:28.
Papa is on his way to qualifying for the South African Championships, with this race being the first step to qualifying.
He will race in two more upcoming events before the final selection.
The South African Championships will take place on September 16 in Gqeberha.
