National Child Protection Week commemorated

Children's rights highlighted.

The Heidelberg SAPS corporate communications officer, Constable Doris Nkosi (crime prevention), along with the staff of the Victim-Friendly Room, the departments of social development and health and the Provincial Gauteng Traffic Department visited Bibi’s Pre-School in Heidelberg.

The children were educated about their rights and what to do when they feel their rights are breached.

The children were also taught what is right and how to identify when someone wants to harm them.

National Child Protection Week is commemorated annually to raise awareness of the rights of children as articulated in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005).

Child Protection Week was observed from May 28 to June 4.

The children learned about children’s rights, the role of the police, health issues and bullying.

Any school wanting the team to visit them can call Nkosi on 072 887 0167.
