Peaceful march on Heidelberg streets

Operation Dudula demands corrupt officials are dealt with.

The concerned residents of Ratanda joined Operation Dudula to voice their concerns during a peaceful march to the Heidelberg SAPS on May 13.

There were well over 150 marchers.

At the Heidelberg Police Station, the Ratanda and Heidelberg SAPS members were on hand to listen to the grievances.

Operation Dudula co-ordinator Thabo Ngayo addressed Heidelberg station commander Colonel Phiwe Ndwadwe and Ratanda station commander Captain Willie Kotzee, SAPS members and the crowd.

Ngayo told the SAPS leaders there were members of both police stations who were corrupt and had failed the residents of the two areas.

“Operation Dudula demands that the station commanders take action against the corrupt officials and ensure that every SAPS member takes their work seriously,” he said.

“We face serious crimes that include murder, hijackings, robberies, GBV, and drug dealers daily, and illegal immigrants have taken over our communities.

“We need dedicated police officials to work in our areas and maintain law and order,” said Ngayo.

After reading the memorandum, Ndwandwe told the crowd he would soon give feedback about the allegations in the document.
