Without nurses, the future of mankind is bleak. - city manager.

“This year’s theme is Our Nurses; Our Future – because the world has, over the years, come to appreciate that without nurses, the future of mankind is bleak.”

This was the message shared by Ekurhuleni’s city manager Dr Imogen Mashazi when she led the International Nurses Day celebrations on May 12 at the Alberton Council Chambers.

A qualified professional nurse, the city manager expressed her gratitude and pride to her colleagues in health as she reflected on the Covid-19 statistics, stating that the city recorded over 2.5m cases and a recovery rate of 98%.

In addition, the city manager and the MMC for Health, Social Development and SRAC, Clr Bridget Thusi, encouraged the nurses to continue serving with pride and always be guided by the nurse’s pledge they took when responding to the call to be caregivers.
