Soccer clinic develops talent

Soccer skills and knowledge work hand in hand.

Local international soccer celebrity and Heidelberg resident Colin Viljoen is hosting soccer clinics at Heidelberg Public School in Jordaan Park.

Viljoen started his career playing in South Africa before relocating to the UK, where he played professional soccer for various clubs and England.

Viljoen’s dream is to boost South African soccer players’ skills and talents and impart his knowledge and extensive experience.

Viljoen wants to identify soccer talent in the area and feels the time is right to introduce youngsters to soccer and, hopefully, bring out various future soccer stars in Heidelberg.

“Each player has different needs,” said Viljoen.

“I want to identify where each one’s strengths lie and develop them to be the best version of himself/herself.
“Hopefully, we will have a few new soccer stars on the horizon.”

The junior soccer players learn the correct skills.

Viljoen has started soccer clinics in Jordaan Park for various age groups.

The age groups are:

Seven to nine years: Tuesdays from 15:00 to 16:00;

Ten to 12 years: Wednesdays from 15:00 to 16:00;

Thirteen to 16 years: Thursdays from 15:00 to 16:00.

The clinics will run until October.

The plan is for the clinics to run annually from February to October and to take soccer players in the clinics to Barcelona, Spain, in December 2024.

Part of the tour will be a visit to the Barcelona Soccer Stadium and watching matches in Barcelona, coupled with a training session with the soccer team.
