Metro and local business take hands

The clean-up was a joint initiative of the Nigel Taxi Rank and the Department of Home Affairs.

Staff from the Nigel Customer Care Centre and the parks department joined forces with members of KT Wash for a clean-up project on February 24.

KT Wash initiated the clean-up project for the area between the Nigel Taxi Rank and the Department of Home Affairs.

“We approached Clr Wollaston Labuschagne about this initiative – to give back to the community by cleaning up this space,” said Mica Mbiza of KT Wash.

“We are looking forward to making a difference in the area,” Mbiza said.

Labuschagne thanked everyone involved for taking part in the initiative.

“We hope that other businesses in the area will also approach us with initiatives to jointly clean up our town,” Labuschagne said.

Fortune Mahano, manager at Nigel CCC, together with Labuschagne, Brandon Pretorius (MMC for Environment and Waste Management), Jennifer Glover (MMC for Health and Social Development) and Marilize Herbst (PR councillor for the Freedom Front Plus for Nigel and Springs) helped to clean on the day.

Members of the EMPD were also present.

“My ambition is to see Nigel clean,” Mahano said. “We can achieve that if we work together.”

Glover said the initiative is a start to building relationships with local businesses.

“It is good news that people from local companies like KT Wash are starting to approach the metro,” she said.

“We hope this initiative will inspire other local businesses to take hands with the metro to collaborate in addressing service delivery issues.”

Labuschagne added, “We need more initiatives like this to make a difference.

“Because of the financial situation the metro currently faces, initiatives like these will help us ensure that service delivery issues get the attention it deserves.”
