Water shortage due to load-shedding

Bunt-out water pump leaves residents with little to no water.

Heidelberg and surrounding areas have been without water since February 2.

The area around the Victorian Centre, parts of Jordaan Park, and Heidelberg Kloof have been crippled with little to no water.

Star Moholobela from Lesedi Local Municipality Water, Sanitation and Solid Waste Department said, “Constant load-shedding in Heidelberg has been the major cause. A pump at the reservoir has burnt out. The pump is in urgent need of repairs.”

At the moment Heidelberg has one pump working to service the two reservoirs.

Repairs are underway but no estimated restoration time was forthcoming.

Maholobela requested that water be used sparingly and that the community to refrain from watering gardens, filling up swimming pools and washing cars.

“Working together we can help each other,” he said.
