Local nurse honoured for her hard work

Mbewane won the award for a second time.

Sr Sthokozile Mbewane, a nurse at the Nigel Tuiste vir Bejaardes, was recently honoured as Nurse of the Year for 2022 at the old age home.

“I was surprised,” Mbewane said. “We didn’t know about the award and I didn’t expect my name to be called.”

Mbewane graduated from the Pfunzo-Ndenze Nursing School in 2015 after which she began her career in nursing.

She has been working at the old age home for the past six years.

Mbewane also won the same award in 2018.

“I enjoy working here,” Mbewane said. “If you are a nurse, you must be professional because you are working with other people.

“Working in nursing is my passion.”

Sr Martie Gammie, head of nursing at the Nigel Tuiste vir Bejaardes, described Mbewane as a good leader.

“She has compassion for the people she works with,” Gammie explained. “It’s inspiring to see her work.”

Mbewane said her success is due to teamwork. “I wouldn’t have come to where I am if it was not for my fellow nurses and sr Martie,” she said.

“I have learned so much from them and hope that we can continue to grow, carry one another and support each other.”
