Season’s greetings from LLM mayor

The municipality remains steadfast in it’s commitment to deliver services.

A festive message from Lesedi Local Municipality executive mayor, Mluleki Nkosi.
The municipality would like to reflect on 2022 as it is reaching its conclusion.

In doing so, we encourage the community to extend goodwill to disadvantaged people and share the least at their disposal.

The year 2022 will go down in history as a period characterised by various challenges. Various health and social challenges, for example, GBV, femicide, HIV/Aids, diabetes, breast cancer and the coronavirus among the many illnesses have left untold distress, where in many cases we have lost loved ones.

We pay homage to them and wish the departed eternal peace.

Service delivery remains the core responsibility of the municipality. The constitution binds us as the municipality to render water, sanitation and electricity to all, without prejudice.

It is also our duty to promote social, environmental and economic development.

The question of electrical supply, concerning load-shedding, has dislodged our service delivery capability in that it has impacted us adversely.

In our general infrastructure, the water and sewer networks were affected severely and on many occasions led to pipe bursts.

Over and above, we had to contend with vandalism and theft of electrical cables, sewer and water pipes. The impact of this means that resources meant to develop the community were diverted to address the outages.
The municipality remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering services to the community.

We remain indebted to the loyal ratepayers, indigents, businesses and industries for their uninterrupted obligations to keep the institution flowing and liquid.

I also extend a token of encouragement and support to employees whose commitment has remained consistent amid life-threatening and dangerous circumstances to avail themselves throughout to respond to service delivery grid locks.

Recently we had our books audited by the Auditor General of South Africa. Amid matters of emphasis, we anticipate an unqualified opinion which will propel us to elevate into a clean audit opinion.

The economic downturn engulfing South Africa and the world has resulted in many economically active people becoming unemployed.

The revenue of the municipality is not immune to these developments. It is against this background that social relief interventions are made available.

However, we would like to encourage those who can afford not to hide behind the poor and pay for their services to avoid unfortunate outcomes.

We believe that our nation is resilient. Our posture is to surge ahead and explore revolutionary and dynamic solutions to our problems by working together.

The proclamation of the Vaal Special Economic zone, which entails strategic land parcels in our area will soon yield employment opportunities through catalytic projects.

I wish to encourage those who are receiving visitors to offer their utmost hospitality so that they can think of us as a destination of choice.

To those who will be visiting other areas keep safe on the road. Keep all your property safe and secure and encourage neighbours to keep a watchful eye on our properties and lives.

In closing, I wish everyone a peaceful festive season and a prosperous new year.
