Captain Paul Mofekeng from Heidelberg SAPS, Heidelberg Vispol, social crime prevention, various CPFs together with crime prevention members joined hands in Operation Vuthuhawu to raise awareness about crimes conducted against drivers and vehicles.
A roadblock was held in the Berg-en-Dal area on the R42 where vehicles and people were stopped and searched.
Drivers were made aware of the dangers of picking up hitchhikers and pamphlets about this were distributed.
Drivers were also educated on driving at night and urged to be vigilant.
Some of the safety tips shared were:
• Do not stop at deserted places.
• Try to avoid driving at night.
• Do not try to be a good Samaritan by helping others.
• Do not give any strangers lifts.
• Try to avoid being bottled up by two or more vehicles.
• If you do suspect something is not right, drive to your nearest police station.
