SAPS – Beware of banking scams

The Nigel SAPS advise the public to be alert following a spike in commercial crimes where scamsters masquerading as bank employees deceive the victims.

According to the police, the public is receiving calls from people claiming to be from the bank alerting them of fraudulent activities on their accounts. They ask the victim to log into their banking application and provide the OTP.

The community must not provide their OTPs or private information over the phone and should rather go to the bank.

The SAPS also warn the community to be careful when buying items on Facebook because it makes them easy targets and they usually do not get the items for which they paid.
