Drive-by shootings rock community

One person was killed and others sustained injuries.

The Ratanda community is reeling with shock after the murder of an 18-year-old and injuries to others in two drive-by shootings on September 1.

The motives for the shootings, which occurred in Ext 23, are unknown, and both incidents are under investigation.

According to information, shots were fired at about midnight at the Muvusana Tavern.

Five victims were wounded during the shooting, and the perpetrators fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle.

Some victims were transported to the Heidelberg Hospital in private vehicles.

Emergency services members discovered another victim a few meters away from the crime scene and transported him to the hospital.

The Ratanda SAPS confirmed one victim died from his injuries.

The SAPS found various empty cartridges on the scene.

The second shooting took place at about 00:15 on Akasia Road.

When the Ratanda SAPS arrived on the scene, they found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her back.

According to reports, the victim was attending a birthday party when a white sedan drove past, firing in the direction of the partygoers.

According to eyewitnesses, then the vehicle sped off in the direction of the R23.

The victim was taken to Heidelberg Hospital for medical attention.

“The Ratanda SAPS asks for anyone who knows about or witnessed the shootings to contact them to assist with the investigations,” urged Sergeant Moss Maluleke, the corporate communication officer for the Ratanda SAPS.
