Robbers pounce on woman transporting cash

One man was arrested, while five are on the run.

Local police are searching for five men who evaded capture following the robbery of a female driver.

The incident took place at about 17:10 on July 3 along the R42.

The woman was a driver for a company and had a substantial amount of money with her.

She was travelling from Nigel towards the Heidelberg Mall when a vehicle overtook her and halted in front of her.

Six men jumped out of the vehicle, pointed a firearm at her, opened the vehicle doors and demanded the money.

One man removed the vehicle’s keys from the ignition while another removed the vehicle’s registration plates.
Traffic officers saw what was taking place and approached the vehicle.

The men sped off from the scene, leaving one of their accomplices behind. He then tried to flee on foot.

SAPS members were in the area and gave chase, apprehending the man. A 9mm pistol, with the serial numbers filed off, was confiscated.

The men who managed to escape fled with the driver’s vehicle keys and the money the woman transported.

Various cases were opened at Heidelberg SAPS, including robbery with a firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of live ammunition.
