Operation Shanela sees clampdown on crime

The community needs to feel safer in the police's presence, says SAPS.

Heidelberg SAPS together with various stakeholders conducted Operation Shanela in Heidelberg on December 7.

The parade was conducted at the Heidelberg Mall where stakeholders involved in fighting crime gathered for the operation.

“The operation aims to assist in tackling crimes in the area and making sure that the community feels safer in the police’s presence,” Heidelberg station commander Colonel Piwe Ndwandwe said.

“The objective of the operation is to ensure that South Africa and its citizens can live freely and in a crime-free society.”

Various areas were visited as part of the operation.

The role players were requested to remove illegal weapons and narcotic users and dealers in the process.

During the operation, pamphlets containing festive season safety information were distributed.
