Social Crime Prevention operation conducted in Heidelberg
Three arrests were made and a number of fines were issued.
SAPS Social crime prevention coordinator Constable Doris Nkosi recently conducted a social crime prevention and sector commanders operation in Heidelberg.
The operation saw people stopped and searched, vehicle searches and vehicles tested for roadworthiness.
There was visible policing as they visited ATMs, various shops, business premises, petrol filling stations, a shopping mall, and taxi ranks.
Several fines were issued during the operation, and they made three arrests for undocumented persons. They confiscated various illegal items.
They also handed pamphlets out regarding crime awareness and substance abuse. Information was also shared regarding illegal immigrants, fraud, and road safety.
Police efforts to combat crime in the area such as these operations were recently recognised by the South African Defence Force Association (SADFA) Unit Suikerbos.
The chairperson, Frik van Niekerk and Adjutant Hannes Louw presented Heidelberg SAPS station commander Colonel Phiwe Ndwandwe with a certificate of gratitude and a floating trophy for the work he does in Heidelberg to fight crime.
“His willingness to lead by example, planning and execution of his duties let Ndwandwe stand out, and the way he leads by example is what we can all aspire to,” said Van Niekerk.
