Ratanda SAPS holds crime-fighting operation

“To be effective, we need to stand together.”

The Ratanda SAPS held Operation Shanela on November 2.

The Sebideng law enforcement agencies continue to enforce the law and create a safer environment in Ratanda.

At a parade at Heidelberg Mall, Colonel Phiwe Ndwandwe, the station commander of the Heidelberg SAPS, said SAPS members must take charge and combat crime in the area.

“Ratanda is under a spate of criminal attacks, and the SAPS members must step up and be counted. There are many house and business robberies, sexual assaults, murders, cable thefts and ATM crimes being reported,” said Ndwandwe.

The operation focused on roadblocks, monitoring compliance with National Road Traffic Regulations, unroadworthy motor vehicles, illegal immigrants, drugs, liquor outlets, unlicensed firearms and dangerous weapons.

Persons, vehicles and premises were searched as part of the operation, and the Ratanda SAPS visited Obed Nkosi Phase as well.

District commissioner Major General Nkhensani Lemba, Ratanda station commander Lieutenant Colonel Muleleki Isaac Ramotshabi, and senior officers spoke to the Obed Nkosi community about safety measures they must follow.

Lemba encouraged the community to start community forums and work closely with the Ratanda SAPS to fight crime.

“To be effective as a police force, we need the community’s involvement, and they need to be an extra set of ears on the ground for us to be effective,” concluded Lemba.
