A man was arrested for the rape of a woman in Ratanda on February 12.
The victim and her brother were walking home just before 23:00 that evening from a tavern in the area when a man known to the siblings approached them.
He requested the woman accompany him to his residence but she refused.
He grabbed her and threatened to assault her. The victim’s brother told the man he was committing an offence.
The man did not heed the warning, and the woman went to his house under duress.
He then took the woman to his bedroom and instructed her to remove her clothes.
She refused and was again threatened. The man then repeatedly raped her.
The next morning, the victim’s boyfriend went to the man’s house to look for her.
She and her boyfriend then went to the Ratanda SAPS to report the crime.
The Ratanda SAPS arrested the suspect. He was detained at the Heidelberg SAPS and will soon appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court.
