Two arrested for illegal gun

The pair attempted to evade the law.

Gauteng Traffic Police, on February 8, was conducting operational duties on the N3 Heidelberg when they noticed three men crossing the freeway near the Spookbrug.

When the traffic officers stopped to investigate, the three men started running away.

The officers called for backup and Heidelberg SAPS, Ratanda SAPS, Vaal Marina SAPS, AfriForum Heidelberg, Heidelberg CPF, Silver Security Group and Crime Stop Heidelberg joined the search. Two of the men were apprehended.

An unlicensed firearm, ammunition, gloves and cable ties were found in their possession.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the firearm is sought in a Bethlehem case.

The men were taken to Heidelberg SAPS.

It has been established the pair has previous cases against them, which included possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of stolen vehicles and hijackings.

They will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
