Devon’s crime prevention received a report to be the lookout for a red Mercedes Benz that was hijacked in Devon on the R550, Nigel Road.

The vehicle was travelling in the direction of Nigel. The SAPS officers responded immediately. A vehicle matching the description was noticed.

SAPS indicated for the driver to stop the vehicle. The vehicle sped off and a chase ensued.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at Spieskloof.

The SAPS found a male in the vehicle. He was unresponsive and his hands were tied. EMS certified him dead at the scene.

Early investigations revealed possible cause of death was strangulation by a rope.

An intelligence-driven operation was launched in Devon together with Nigel SAPS. The same day one suspect was arrested, while the following day two more suspects were nabbed.

Devon station commander Captain Thokozile Ndou expressed her appreciation for the co-operation between Devon and Nigel SAPS that led to the arrests.

Ndou strongly condemns the senseless killing of a young man and hopes that the arrests will send a clear message that crime will not be tolerated and will be dealt with under the full arm of the law.
