NPO strives to bring services to the rural community

The organisation already established a soccer team.

DEVON – The Greater Devon United Peoples Projects (GRED-UPP), a non-profit organisation, was launched on the recent Human Rights Day at the local Impumelelo old soccer grounds in Devon.

The organisation was founded in March last year and registered with the Department of Social Development in August.

The human rights commemoration event had poetry reading, traditional singing and dancing. The local soccer team, also in attendance, showed off their soccer skills.

“Our current donors are offering services according to their CSI objectives and personal compassion for our local community needs. We are very grateful,” explained Liesl Rittles from GREDD-UPP.

“We have a long list of interested donors to make our programme objectives a reality. We aim to bring much-needed services to our rural community.

“We have a diversified set of activities, programmes and activities ranging from indoor and outdoor sports, skills development, entrepreneurial training, artisan training on the site of the surrounding mines, food and vegetable gardens projects, sewing classes, dancing and singing classes and after school reading classes for primary school children.

“Our organisation already established soccer teams between the ages of four and 14 years, namely Greater Devon United Football Club.

“We also have a food kitchen that will provide breakfast and late lunch to deserving children before and after school. The involvement of every parent of the children will ensure the smooth running of the organisation.

“The elderly received a gift each and freshly prepared food sponsored by one of our donors. The children had breakfast and lunch with cold drinks to mark this important day in our South African history.

“The organisation thanks the GRED-UPP team and the community who made this event possible and our donors who have our utmost appreciation.”
