Water supply affected by thunderstorm

Numerous areas are being affected by the situation.

In a statement released today (September 20), Rand Water indicated that the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment plant was affected by a severe thunderstorm.

According to the statement, powerlines to and from the plant were affected by the thunderstorm around midnight on Tuesday (September 19) and subsequently tripped the plant.

Rand Water indicated that attempts to restart the plant revealed faults along the overhead power lines supplying the auxiliary plant.
The power failure at the plant has resulted in the loss of 2 000 million liters of water per day.

Consequently, this load reduction, according to Rand Water, has impacted all municipalities supplied from the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant.

The following areas will be affected:
Palmiet System:
• Klipriviersberg
• Klipfontein
• Brakfontein
• Germiston
• Northridge
• Haartebeeshoek

Mapleton:
• Brakpan
• Vlakfontein
• Selcourt
• Wildebeestfontein
• Stompiesfontein

Eikenhof:
• Meredale
• Waterval

It is important to highlight that this incident occurred while the system is strained by high consumption, which is going to exacerbate the situation.

Rand Water urges customers to adopt water saving measures to reduce high consumption.
