Ekurhuleni locals warned not to leave taps open during water interruptions

To prevent incorrect billing, the CoE urges residents to close all taps during water supply interruptions.

To prevent incorrect billing brought on by air trapped in the pipes going through the water metres, the City of Ekurhuleni encourages households to keep their taps closed during water interruptions.

According to the city’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, because of the city’s use of mechanical water flow metres, which could also have their flow measurement mechanisms changed by airflow, some homes may have experienced a water metering issue during the recent water supply outages.

“Having the taps closed during water supply interruptions will not only prevent an unnecessarily high-water bill when water runs unattended, but will also prevent flooding in one’s property,” Zweli said.
