1928 House awarded the latest Blue Plaque

Latest Blue Plaque for heritage awarded to the 1928 House.

The 1928 house in Mertz Street was awarded heritage status.

On November 18, Tony Burisch of the Heidelberg Heritage Association awarded the latest blue plaque for heritage to the house.

The plaque unveiling is no 66 in the series of blue plaques awarded for heritage.

The house, situated at 60 Mertz Street, is understood was built in 1928.

The year 1928 when the house was built.

The information was gleaned from a doctor who used the house for his business practice.

The owners that lived in the house over the years was L Wildner (1937-1941), PHR Rautenbach (1954-1956), Casparus Gerhardus Troskie (1956-1972) Hendrik and Mirna Kruger (1978-1980), Brian Newton Troskie (1993), Radley Celeste (1993 Troskie’s sister), Greyling Family Trust (2000), Johnny Goosen (2004-2016) and the current owners are Ralph and Erna Sutherland.

Plaque sponsor Jaco du Plessis from Heidelbrew, Erna and Ralph Sutherland.

The Kruger’s lived there with the three youngest of their eight children. They are Naomi Kruger (19), Karen Kruger (18) end Koos Kruger (25). Naomi was married in the Klipkerk in 1979 to Neels Grobler.

The tree is believed to be planted either before or when the house was built.

Hendrik Kruger worked in the Rembrandt van Rijn cigarette factory in Heidelberg. The factory is now knows as the British American Tobacco company.
