Residents urged to reduce water consumption

Rand Water is concerned about the significant increase of water consumption.

Rand Water urges consumers to use water sparingly as high temperatures are putting a severe strain on its distribution network.

The continued high consumption may lead to serious water shortages in its areas of supply.

Rand Water supplies water to parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and the Free State.

During this period, water demand always outstrips supply as some consumers do not adhere to water-saving practices.

Consumers are requested to adopt water savings measures:

• Avoid washing cars with hose pipes, but use buckets

• Avoid watering gardens during the day, but do so between sunset and sunrise

• Avoid washing pavements with hose pipes, but use brooms to sweep

• Turn off taps while brushing teeth

• Do not hesitate to repair leaking taps

• Avoid turning on taps fully and turn them off after use

• Avoid leaving taps running while rinsing hair or shaving

• Use a sprinkler system, if necessary between sunset and sunrise

• Cover swimming pools to prevent quick water evaporation

• Install low flow restrictions on taps at home

• Use cold water to wash hands not hot water

• Re-using bath water for watering the flower beds and lawns

• Use water-efficient dishwashers.
