Blue plaque status to Danie’s Doggy Salon.

Danie's Doggy Salon proudly a Heritage Site

Danie’s Doggy Salon is proudly a heritage site.

On September 9, Tony Burisch of the Heritage Association unveiled the latest blue plaque in Heidelberg.

54 Marais street is number 58 in the series of blue plaque heritage sites.

It is estimated the house was built between 1880 and 1900. The house is a perfect example of what a weekend cottage house was in the times it was built in.

Farmers would live on their farms and have a weekend residence where they stayed on the weekends in town.
Weekends were their time to purchase supplies and also go to church and have holy communion.

The house was built next to the Good Templers Hall, on the corner of Market (Now Voortrekker) and Marais streets.

The hall was used as the Town Hall before the new hall was built in 1939.

There are still various original fixtures and features visible in the house together with pillars and the verandah as well.

Danie’s Doggy Salon with Danie and Mariaan Naudé as the owners was established in 1990.

Danie was a dog handler with the SAPS and was well known for training dogs in Heidelberg. Danie Naude died on December 27, 2021.

The sponsor of the plaque is Danie’s Doggy Salon.
