The latest accident on the roads of Heidelberg involved three trucks on the N3 on June 29.
One of the drivers was taken to a local hospital for further checkups.
With all the accidents occurring in Heidelberg lately, one surely has to ask the question of why are these accidents constantly occurring in the same areas? What speeds are they going? Are the drivers disregarding traffic rules? What are the law enforcement agencies doing to curb the problem?
With most of the accidents either occurring on the R42, N3, R103 or R23, there is a need to do something to ensure that it either does not happen or gets curbed to a point where fewer accidents are happening.
A lot of accidents either involve a light motor vehicle and a truck or a single vehicle involved in a crash.
It is not just damaging to property or vehicles, but the loss of lives is also involved. How can it be prevented? What must be done to stop the carnage on the roads in Heidelberg?
Since the beginning of April to the beginning of June, 18 minor accidents were reported where either the vehicle was only damaged while 12 serious accidents were reported where the driver had to be treated for injuries, taken to hospital or loss of life.
Authorities have confirmed that the majority of the accidents are caused by either speeding, disregarding traffic laws or irresponsible driving.
The Heidelberg/Nigel Heraut observed traffic at one busy street in Heidelberg.
In the hour, 156 vehicles drove past and 110 vehicles did not even stop or slow down at the stop street.
An appeal by authorities is made to one and all to drive safe. Road traffic signs and traffic laws need to be obeyed.
