Community roadshow held in Devon

The Devon community was educated on gender-based violence and other issues during the roadshow.

On May 24, the Social Crime Prevention coordinator, ward councillors, departments of community safety, health, social development, emergency medical services, and various roleplayers held an educational session with the community of Devon.

The main topic was informing the Devon community about gender-based violence (GBV), encouraging them to report GBV issues and stop being silent about it.

The community was sensitised on how to report the crime and how protection orders can be obtained. The community was further educated on other services rendered.

The health department informed the Devon community about matters concerning healthy diets, mental health, chronic diseases and dental care.

Members of the community came out in numbers.

Social workers made their voices heard about child and elderly care and how to apply for birth and death certificates, as well as duties when a child is placed in someone’s care.

Emergency medical services explained how the community needs to use the 112 emergency number and not abuse the number – it can be the difference between saving a life and being too late to do anything.
