Car theft suspects arrested

Vehicle theft on the increase.

SAPS Constable Victor Manyamalala and a colleague received a report of attempted car theft in the Boschfontein area on May 27.

A community member, William Strydom, made a citizen’s arrest The targeted vehicle was a Toyota Hilux.

On being interrogated, the suspect revealed that he and two friends, who were travelling in a red Nissan Sentra, came to Heidelberg in an attempt to steal vehicles.

The suspects are from the Orange Farm area.

While the SAPS were driving on the R42 towards the police station, they noticed a vehicle matching the description driving at high speed.

The police attempted to stop the vehicle and during a high-speed chase, the vehicle turned onto the N3 highway into oncoming traffic. The vehicle came to a standstill in a ditch.

The two occupants in the vehicle were arrested and charged with vehicle theft, along with the first suspect. House-breaking implements, car-jamming remotes and possible poisoned dog food were found in their possession.

Further investigations will be carried out. The suspects are due to appear in court soon.
