Commemorating Child Protection Week

School learners educated about their rights as children.

Capt Mzwandile Blose from Heidelberg SAPS Social Crime Prevention recently visited Laer Volkskool.

He addressed children on their rights and to observe Child Protection Week.

Child Protection Week is commemorated annually in partnership with government departments and civil society organisations that render child protection services.

Some of the stakeholders that joined the campaign included the Department of Health and library services.
Learners were reminded about the importance of health matters and encouraged to read books.

Police commemorate Child Protection Week in honour of children’s rights as articulated in the constitution, ensuring that the most vulnerable in society do not suffer abuse.

The SAPS believes it is in their power to stop the cycle of neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation of children.
Children of South Africa live in a society with a constitution with the highest regard of their rights, equality and dignity for everyone.

Protecting children from violence, exploitation and abuse is not a basic value but also an obligation.

For assistance with child protection matters contact the SAPS on 011 081 0111 (toll-free) or the Department of Social Development (DSD) on 0800 428 428 (toll-free).
