Nurses appreciated at Heidelberg Hospital

The hospital held an event in honour of its nurses as part of International Nurses Day.

Members of the Heidelberg Hospital and their nursing personnel celebrated International Nurses Day on May 12.

The theme of the celebration was A Voice to Lead -Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health.

Heidelberg Hospital CEO Dr Itumeleng Molatlhegi gave a message of support and extended a few words of gratitude to the nurses for being there when their patients need them the most.

All departments with nursing personnel at Heidelberg Hospital were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their hard work and selflessness.

During the keynote address, Chabba Nkosi raised his concern about the increase of nurses who are being attacked and killed by their partners or in the line of duty.

Matron Zandile Dladla, Obed Mthembu from Ward Five and matron Msiza also attended the event.

He pleaded with authorities in the security cluster to intervene and curb these deeds in society.

“We know that nurses are being killed in their line of duty and that it is done by males,” Nkosi said.

Chaba Nkosi raised his concern regarding the number of nurses being attacked by their partners during the event.

“We also know that it is done by their loved ones and partners.

“We want to highlight during this International Nurses Day that we need to do away with gender-based violence and need to be protected in our workplace.”
