Maré Street low water bridge cleaned up

Clean Heidelberg group asks for assistance with recycling.

The Clean Heidelberg group recently moved to the Maré Street low water bridge to do their weekly clean up.

The Lesedi Local Municipality mowed the grass on the same day. Before this, the area was an eyesore.

It seems the area is being used as an illegal dumping ground. Soiled baby nappies were found in a heap in the field together with other rubbish.

More litter can be found among the trees along the Blesbokspruit and there is evidence that a fire was started at the base of one of the trees.

In the hour the group spent cleaning up, 15 rubbish bags were filled.

Charlotte Cloete from Clean Heidelberg requested community members to assist with recycling by separating plastic bottles from other rubbish.

“When rubbish gets put into the rubbish bags please try to separate the rubbish from the plastics. It just makes it easier to work through,” she said.
