Meals on Wheels Community Services (MOWCS) South Africa has announced the organisation is ready to start with relief efforts for KwaZulu-Natal communities that have been affected by the recent flooding in the province.
The CEO of MOWCS, Nelisa Mabenge, said, “As an NPO that specialises (but not limited to) in providing meals to the destitute, we believe hunger is the extreme materialisation of poverty and human deprivation; therefore, mitigation of this, especially during this tragic disaster is vital.
“Food must be the least of residents’ worries, especially at a time like this. We are committed as an organisation to provide a meal and any other form of support during this time to assist the residents that are affected by the KZN floods.”
MOWCS will provide a cooked meal to camps where displaced residents are being sheltered following the floods that wreaked havoc on parts of KZN.
“The situation will be assessed and the damage thereof to see if the MOWCS will need to provide more assistance to the communities affected. We are inviting our strategic partners and donors to join in the efforts of responding to this disaster, as some of the areas are not easily accessible,” said Mabenge.
