Three Nigelites on their way to France

Shaun Bamford, Pieter Nel and Frans Claassen are all going to compete at the World Carp Classic competition in France this year.

Three anglers from Nigel have been chosen to compete at the World Carp Classic this year in France.

The competition will be held from September 26 to October 1.

Shaun Bamford, Pieter Nel and Frans Claassens make up Team Fishing Game, which was one of six teams chosen to represent South Africa at the competition.

They were chosen after the World Carp Classic South Africa qualifier (Specimen Carp Fishing Tournament) was held at Roodekoppies Dam in the North West Province from March 12 to 18.

Team Fishing Game placed third in the tournament. The chosen teams all form part of a national team selected to compete in the World Carp Classic 2022.

The third place trophy the men received at the qualifying competition.

“It’s a dream come true,” Bamford said. “I have always dreamed about being part of a South African team for sport.

“It is an honour being asked to join the SA team to represent South Africa,” Nel explained. “This would not have been possible without my two teammates.

“This is a great opportunity to represent South Africa, but it still feels so unreal,” Claassens said of the opportunity. “I would like to thank my wife, Annetjie for always believing in me and my teammates.”

The team is busy with fundraising for the event.

“Without the help from the community and businesses this opportunity will not be possible,” Bamford said.

“Team Fishing Game would like to thank everyone that has always shown their support. We will do Nigel proud and do our best in France in September.”
