Two arrested after hitchhiker robbed

Victim was looking for a ride when he unknowingly climbed into a car with criminals.

Two men were arrested following the armed robbery of a hitchhiker on April 4.

The victim was hitchhiking on the N3 towards KwaZulu-Natal when a white Hyundai Accent with three male occupants stopped and offered him a lift.

While travelling on the R23, the men threatened the victim with a gun.

He was robbed of his bank card, cellphone and a bag of clothes, and then dropped off at an unknown location.

The victim walked to the main road, where he flagged down officers in a passing SAPS vehicle for help.

The police tracked one of the perpetrators to Sky City, Alberton, where the victim pointed him out to SAPS members.

The man was standing in the bank queue with the victim’s bank card. He was arrested.

He was requested to contact one of his accomplices to meet him, and after this man arrived, he too was arrested.
The victim’s belongings were recovered.

A case was opened at the Brackendowns Police Station; however, the docket will be transferred to Heidelberg SAPS.

The pair will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
