March is amnesty month

Illegal connection clampdown by municipality.

Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) will be starting an aggressive campaign to clamp down on all accounts that are in arrears as of March 1.

The LLM will be targeting residents and businesses with outstanding municipal accounts of three or more months.

“LLM is urging anyone who is rerouting or interfering with the municipal electrical infrastructure to come forward,” said acting municipal manager S’Busiso Dlamini.

“The LLM is giving everyone a second chance to correct their electrical connections and become fully compliant with applicable regulations as specified by the municipal electricity by-laws and policies.

“A credit control policy will be implemented that all accounts that are in arrears will face disconnection of service delivery,” said Dlamini.

If any resident is in arrears, arrangements must be made with the municipality to avoid terminating of services.

“Ignoring the warning will not bode well for residents who have money owed to LLC.

“Community members are requested to report all illegal tampering of municipal infrastructure or electrical equipment, with the assurance that all associated fees will be waivered for the duration of the campaign.

“The campaign is for March and LLM will at the end of the amnesty period, be going from house to house in an intensive investigating programme to look for illegal connections.”
