Cleaning Heidelberg one paper at a time

The Skoon Heidelberg group were out once again on February 24 to clean a section of Heidelberg.

The area tackled was at the Heidelberg Mall just next to the taxi rank.

The aim was to change mindsets in individuals to firstly not just litter but to use the supplied rubbish bins.
Every week there is a group of community members who help clean a part of the town by giving up their time to beautify areas in Heidelberg.

Plastic and papers found lying around in the open areas.

Crimestop always goes out of their way to assist and take the rubbish collected to the rubbish tip.

Hannes Snyman said, “The plan is to get the community involved in the venture and to educate the community at large about the environment and surrounding areas not to litter, and keep the town clean.

“Every paper that gets picked up is a step in the right direction to keep Heidelberg tidy,” Strydom said.

“Don’t waste and be mindful to ensure that rubbish belongs in bins and not strewn all over Heidelberg.”

He said to educate the community on no littering starts with a single person disposing of his or her rubbish in the correct bins provided.

Charlotte Cloete said, “Please come out and be part of the solution and not part of the problem. We need more people to help clean up the neighbourhood.

“It can be where you stay if you feel more comfortable doing it that way or coming out to help in organised groups as well.”

“A clean Heidelberg is what we all want and to be a town we are proud of,” concluded Snyman.
