Organisations collaborate on skills development in agriculture

Local companies launch job creation project.

Magnojet and Earth Owl have entered into a collaboration project to empower the community to be self-sustainable.

Earth Owl with Roché Pepler and Santana Pestana at the helm has already made huge strides to empower and educate the community to be more self-sustainable.

Matthew McGregor of Magnojet contacted Pepler, Pestana and the team to set up a collaboration on a skills-development programme.

The programme aims to educate women who want to learn how to work in agriculture and the environment.
Earth Owl and Magnojet will work hand in hand to identify and train women in the agricultural sector.

In exchange, Magnojet has supplied specialised knapsacks with adjustable nozzles to be used in the project.

Magnojet specialises in spray points and nozzles for leaf-feeding, poison spraying or even water distribution areas. Each spray nozzle is different in the various fields in which it is used.

Pepler said, “With the knapsacks supplied, the women will be taught how to work with leaf feeding.

“Earth Owl does not use any poisonous pesticides on its agricultural areas,” emphasised Pepler.

“Everything Earth Owl does is organic and the new knapsacks will help and ensure that the organic work gets carried out.

“Magnojet did more than ask and assisted with a reconditioned gearbox that was fitted into a broken-down vehicle so that it can be used again for the work and transport as needed.

“Earth Owl believes each person has the potential to be self-sustainable.

“We are encouraging the community to go out and start a vegetable garden and become self-sustainable.

“We believe that by empowering each other, we can ensure that we make the place we live in better.

“When there are companies like Magnojet that support us in the process to create a better place and community, then it shows what we are doing is being noticed,” Pepler continued.

“Earth Owl started initially with worm composting and slowly increased its production. Initially, a 10m by 30m area, and within 18 months, we increased it to triple the size.

“We at Earth Owl are here to help, educate and train the community to be more reliant, self-sustainable and help the community where we can. It is not just for a person individually but for the society and community each one lives in,” she said.

“Furthermore, we have four tunnels that still need to be put under netting to ensure more job creation and skills development. Earth Owl is looking towards a future that looks bright and prosperous. As a future project, organic composting is also in the planning stages that we are working and building on.”

Magnojet is willing to advise on any nozzles that might be needed on a personal, business or agricultural basis.

CSE General Projects is also part and parcel of the process in that they provide the mechanical arm with the assistance of building warehouses and storerooms.

With all the role players doing their part, there is a bright future ahead to ensure job creation, and skills development can and will be a priority.
