Ekurhuleni highlights importance of regular reproductive health checks

Having a healthy reproductive lifestyle is everyone’s business, which affects both men and women equally.

In line with the commemoration of February as Reproductive Month, the City of Ekurhuleni has lined up a series of services to assist residents with reproductive health care.

The City thus encourages residents to seek assistance with any health concern or issue from professional nurses.
The reproductive health services, which are offered at the City’s primary health facilities, including but not limited to:

• Family planning methods

• Treatment of sexually transmitted infections

• Cancer screening such as prostate-specific antigen and Pap smear. Services are offered to detect potentially precancerous and cancerous processes

• Counselling services to discuss reproductive health issues including erectile dysfunction

The above services are also provided to young people through the youth-friendly services available at the city’s facilities.

Reproductive health is the state of having good physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system.

Having a healthy reproductive lifestyle is everyone’s business, which affects both men and women equally.

Reproductive health is not only for females or pregnancy but also involves sexual well-being and reproduction in men.

Head of Health and Social Services Dr Gilbert Motlatla said, “This makes it very important for patients to be proactive. Should one have concerns or see any changes in their body, they need not hesitate to visit our health facilities because early detection saves lives.”
