Cambridge beats top team

Cambridge FC brings down top team.

Cambridge FC travelled to the Greek Sporting Club in Bedfordview on January 28 to face Joburg City FC, who are in the top spot of the SAB league table.

The first half was considered a tactical battle, with both teams trying to find openings to get behind the other’s defence.

Joburg City FC created the first scoring opportunity but failed due to the goalkeeping work of newly signed Cambridge player Tebogo Beron Dhlamini.

From here on out, the Cambridge team started to gain possession of the ball, keeping the ball with them using neat passes and creating various scoring opportunities of their own.

Cambridge FC took the lead with a penalty kick by Vuysile Naymar Pasman. This after Thabang Makgabutlane was fouled inside the box, prompting the referee to award a penalty.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as the referee soon awarded a penalty kick to Joburg City when Cambridge defender Njabulo Mahlangu fouled a Joburg City winger.

The first half of the match ended with a tied score of 1-1.

With more rain coming down in the second half, both teams pushed harder to create more chances to score.

Cambridge showed their hunger for an away win with neat passes, even though the game slowed considerably due to the weather.

With 10 minutes to go, Vuysile Pasman scored another well-taken goal, putting the Cambridge team back in the lead.

The match ended with a score of 2-1 for Cambridge.

“The team showed commitment,” said Cambridge coach Ignatius Maphike.

Head coach Godfrey Hermanus said he was happy with the win and good teamwork.
