Local cyclist shines bright

Local cyclist is a golden girl.

On the weekend of January 15 and 16, local cyclist Anet Coetzee (33) from Heidelberg participated in the Gauteng Provincial TT Cycling Road Race through Sedibeng.

The race was open to anyone from across South Africa, but only Gauteng cyclists would qualify for medals.
Coetzee participated in the 30- to 34-year-old female age group. The race started at the Café de Cirque (Old Boswel Wilky Circus venue) in Daleside.

There were more than 500 cyclists participating in the event.

According to the organisers, it was more than anticipated, but a huge welcome to see so many coming out and participating in the cycle race.

“We were very happy with the turnout and luckily, the rainy weather stayed away,” the organisers said.

Coetzee won her individual 22km time trial with a time of 36 minutes and three seconds on January 15, as well as the 88km cycle race for her specific age group in a time of two hours, 37 minutes and 10 seconds on January 16.

The next important cycle race on the calendar is the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight on February 20 in Boksburg and the Monte Casino Classic in Fourways on February 22.
